Five Women's Student-Athletes Earn CSC Academic All-District Accolades

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Announced by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Tuesday, five student-athletes from the University of the South were listed on the CSC Academic All-District Team®. 

Nicole Nesbitt and Mary Browder Howell from the women's golf program, Winnie Pajcic and Brooke Sigmon from women's lacrosse and Abbey Sohonage from the field hockey program were recognized from the University of the South. 

The At-Large Program is selected from the following NCAA-sanctioned sports: 
  • Women's Beach Volleyball
  • Women's Bowling
  • Women's Crew/Rowing
  • Men's and Women's Fencing
  • Women's Field Hockey
  • Men's and Women's Golf
  • Men's and Women's Gymnastics
  • Men's and Women's Ice Hockey
  • Men's and Women's Lacrosse
  • Men's and Women's Rifle
  • Men's and Women's Skiing
  • Men's Volleyball
  • Men's and Women's Water Polo
  • Men's Wrestling
Formerly the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), nominations are accepted by current dues-paying CSC members. To be nominated: 
  • A student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. The cumulative grade-point average may NOT be rounded up to 3.50.
  • Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable).
  • No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and been on a college roster in that sport for two years.
Nesbitt, a senior from Newport Beach, Calif., wrapped her career on the golf course as a three-time All-SAA selection. Ranked 102nd in the GolfStat rankings, she averaged 78.81 strokes per round in 16 rounds this season. At the 2023 SAA Championships, she carded a 54-hole score of 226 (76-75-75) for fifth place. 

A member of the Order of the Gown, the SAA Academic Honor Roll and the Dean's List at Sewanee, she also garnered an All-America Scholar honor from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA). 

She graduated cum laude from the college recently with an honors degree in International and Global Studies. 

Howell, a sophomore from Murray, Ky., placed in 13th at the SAA Championships from the GreyStone Golf Club in Dickson with a score of 235 (76-80-79). In 14 rounds this season, she averaged 79.5 strokes. 

Majoring in Mathematics, she is a member of the Order of the Gown, the SAA Academic Honor Roll, the University of the South Dean's List and a WGCA All-America Scholar. 

Pajcic, a sophomore from Jacksonville, Fla., was recently named an All-Region selection by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association (IWLCA). Earning All-SAA accolades for a second straight season, she forced 34 turnovers and scooped up 41 ground balls for the women's lacrosse program in 2023. 

A member of the Order of the Gown, the SAA Academic Honor Roll and the University of the South Dean's List, she is majoring in Religious Studies with a Politics minor. 

Sigmon, a sophomore from Apex, N.C., also picked up her second straight All-SAA honor a few weeks after her performance in the midfield. Along with tallying 50 points on 33 goals and 17 assists, she also won 52 draw controls and forced 25 turnovers during the 2023 campaign. 

The 2022 SAA Newcomer of the Year is also a member of the SAA Academic Honor Roll and the Dean's List. 

Sohonage, a senior from Camp Hill, Pa., is a two-time All-SAA member, as she earned four varsity letters with the field hockey program at Sewanee. This past season, she scored five points on two goals and an assist. Moving between defender and midfield, she also picked up a defensive save. 

Named to the All-Sportsmanship Team by the SAA, she is a member of the Order of the Gown, the SAA Academic Honor Roll and the Dean's List. 

From the Southern Athletic Association (SAA), 15 student-athletes were recognized from Berry, Centre and Sewanee. 

The Division III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Division III Academic All-America® programs. 

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on June 22.
