Sewanee announces 2026 Athletics Hall of Fame

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The University of the South announced the 2026 class of inductees for the Sewanee Athletics Hall of Fame, which includes seven student-athletes, one team, and a coach who will be formally inducted after previously being unable to attend his scheduled ceremony.

The 2026 Hall of Fame class features Lindsey Liles C'16 (women's tennis), Eric Roddy C'16 (men's tennis), Emily Javadi C'16 (women's golf), Courtland Day C'12 (men's swimming), Eric Ochel C'95 (men's basketball), Telfair Hodgeson Parker C'69 (wrestling), Laura Johnston Cothern C'06 (women's soccer), the 2016 men's lacrosse team, and Todd White (men's soccer coach).

Lindsey Liles C'16 was one of the most accomplished student-athletes in Sewanee women's tennis history. A six-time All-American (four in doubles, two in singles), Liles earned 2016 ITA National Senior Player of the Year honors and was named the SAA Player of the Year. She was also the 2013 SAA Newcomer of the Year and a recipient of the ITA Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship. Liles excelled both on the court and in the classroom, earning Academic All-America honors and an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship while finishing her career ranked among the nation's top players in both singles and doubles, with a career high 5th in doubles and 16th in singles. 

Eric Roddy C'16 was a standout for the Sewanee men's tennis program, earning ITA All-American honors in doubles and was the 2015 ITA Regional Doubles Champion and the 2015 ITA Small College National Runner-Up in Doubles. A three-time First Team All-SAA selection, Roddy helped lead the Tigers to four conference championships and earned recognition as the 2016 SAA Man of the Year. He was also honored as the ITA Atlantic South Most Improved Player in 2016, earning his career high rankings of No. 2 in doubles and No. 38 in singles. Roddy was also a Rhodes Scholar Finalist, a two-time team captain, and a four-time ITA Scholar Athlete. 

Emily Javadi C'16 was a dominant force in Sewanee women's golf and one of the top players in program history. A three-time All-American, Javadi earned the 2013 WGCA National Freshman of the Year award and was the SAA Player of the Year and Tournament Medalist that same season. A four-time First-Team All-SAA selection and the 2016 SAA Woman of the Year, she qualified for the NCAA Tournament four times and recorded 10 tournament victories, finishing in the top five in 23 of her 33 collegiate events.

Courtland Day C'12 was a two-time NCAA All-American in the 200-yard breaststroke and one of Sewanee's most accomplished swimmers. A three-time SCAC champion in the event, Day set both school and conference records and earned four All-SCAC honors. His success in the pool also earned him recognition on the SCAC 30th Anniversary All-Conference Team.

Eric Ochel C'95 was one of the top scorers in Sewanee men's basketball history. A 1994-95 All-American, Ochel finished his career with 1,510 points and 251 three-point field goals, both ranking among the top three all-time in program history. A two-time All-SCAC selection, he was known for his consistent scoring ability and perimeter shooting.

Telfair Hodgeson Parker C'69 was a standout wrestler for Sewanee, compiling a 27-9 career record. A two-time CAC Conference Champion and a one-time SIWA Conference Champion, Parker was a key contributor to multiple team titles. Across his career, Parker scored 104 career points, placing him fifth in the program's all-time leaders. His success helped establish a strong foundation for Sewanee wrestling during his era.

Laura Johnston Cothern C'06 was a cornerstone of the Sewanee women's soccer program during her career. A First Team All-American in 2005, Johnston Cothern also earned First Team All-Region and All-Conference honors twice, while serving as team captain. She was named Sewanee's Female Athlete of the Year in 2006 and helped lead the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament.

The 2016 Sewanee men's lacrosse team had one of the most successful seasons in program history, finishing 12-4 overall and a perfect 7-0 in SAA play. The Tigers captured the conference regular-season championship and became the first team in program history to win back-to-back SAA titles. The team earned 11 All-SAA selections and swept the conference's major individual awards, while also producing the program's first two USILA All-Americans, Robbie Berndt and Cason Liles. 

Todd White* will be formally inducted with the Class of 2026 after previously being unable to attend his scheduled ceremony. White served as head coach of the Sewanee men's soccer program from 1985 to 1990, compiling a 62-28-8 record and leading the Tigers to four conference championships. His leadership and commitment to student-athlete development left a lasting impact on the program.

The 2026 Sewanee Athletics Hall of Fame class will be recognized during the Hall of Fame Weekend on September 18-19, honoring the outstanding achievements and lasting legacies of these individuals and teams.

*White was originally selected for the 2025 class but will be inducted with the Class of 2026.
