DANVILLE, Ky. - The University of the South baseball team secured a doubleheader split with Centre College on Saturday, winning the opener, 6-5, and falling, 4-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-Sewanee got the offense going in the opener of the twin bill. After
Hunter Herndon led off the game with a double,
Charlie Teel had a productive out with an RBI groundout.
-The Colonels responded with a bases loaded walk to tie the game, and followed with an RBI groundout to make it 2-1 in favor of the home team.
-Centre tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second thanks to an RBI single to push the lead to 4-1.
-In the third, Herndon made it a 4-2 score thanks to a base hit after
Owen Andress led off the frame with a free pass. After a fielder's choice and back-to-back walks, the Colonels decided to make a pitching change with the bases loaded and two outs. Following the mound visit,
Will Yarbro launched a ball to right field for a two-run double to even the score at four.
-In the fifth, a sac fly gave Centre the lead again, 5-4, but it would not last long. For the Tigers in the seventh, an RBI knock by
Mike Lewishall evened the game again as the see-saw battle continued.
-After the pitching and defense put up a zero on the board in the bottom half to keep the game even at five, the pendulum finally swung in favor of the Purple and White in the top of the eighth.
Jonah Patton, with one out, coaxed a pinch hit walk, and Andress advanced him over to second on a base hit.
-With two on and one out,
Luke Short sent a ball to left field for the go-ahead RBI double.
-On the mound, Aiden Lenzen slammed the door as he retired the final seven batters he faced to pick up the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-In the night cap, Centre made it a 1-0 lead on an RBI groundout. Later, in the fifth, the Colonels put it away with a three-run inning.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Moving to the leadoff spot,
Hunter Herndon led the Tigers with a 3-for-5 day at the plate in game one with an RBI and two runs scored. In the second game, the freshman added a hit and walk.

Will Yarbro had two RBI on his double.

Owen Andress was a perfect 3-for-3 day at the dish with a free pass. In game two, he was 2-for-3 with a double. For the series, he was 6-of-9 with a run scored.

Aidan Lenzen (3-5) tossed seven innings in relief for the Purple Tigers, allowing one earned run and punching out seven batters to match a career-high.
CENTRE KEY STATISTICS
-Dillon Di Lorio posted a 3-for-4 day at the dish in game on with two RBI. He followed that performance by going 2-for-2 with two runs scored in the night cap.
-Ben Prather (6-0) went the distance in the seven-inning contest in the series fianle, tossing the shutout and striking out eight batters.

Sewanee makes a quick stop at home on Tuesday with hosting Maryville College (Tenn.). First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. from Montgomery Field.
