SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South softball team picked up its second conference series of the season after defeating Centre College in the rubber match of a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) series, 6-5, Sunday afternoon from the Tiger Softball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee got on the board first in the opening frame. After a wild pitch brought
Zoe Crockett in for the Tigers' first run, a
Maggie Barker RBI single made it 2-0.
-The Colonels cut the deficit in half with an RBI single in the third.
-Sewanee made it a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth thanks to an RBI single by
Zoe Crockett and a fielder's choice by
Hannah Wilson to score
Sam Dean.
-Centre responded in the fifth in a loud way, as they started the inning with a leadoff home run. Two batters later, Emily Lammers made it a 4-3 score on another solo shot. The visitors tied the game on an error in the field.
-In the bottom half of the inning, Sewanee loaded the bases with two outs, but they were left loaded on a fly out.
-Staying all knotted up at four runs each going into the bottom of the sixth. After back-to-back free passes by Crockett and Wilson and a double steal to put runners on second and third,
Alice Charboneau gave Sewanee the lead on a sacrifice fly.
-After a pop-up for Sewanee's second out of the inning and Wilson at third, a wild pitch saw her scamper home for the 6-4 lead.
-In the seventh, after a leadoff single and a sacrifice bunt to move her up 60 feet, a strikeout by
Hanna Hollis and a pop-up ended the game and secured the series victory for the Purple and White.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-For the Tigers, eight of the nine players in the lineup reached base on the day, including seven walks.
-
Zoe Crockett and
Sam Dean each posted two hits in the victory. Crockett and
Hannah Wilson each scored two runs as well.
-Hannah Hollis (4-5) tossed 1.2 innings of relief to pick up the win.
CENTRE KEY STATISTICS
-Emily Lammers had three hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs.
UP NEXT
Sewanee's home stand continues next weekend, as the Tigers welcome the Lynx of Rhodes College on Friday and Saturday, April 7-8. The weekend will be the program's "Salute to Service" Weekend.
First pitch will take place on Friday at 2 p.m.
