SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South women's lacrosse team wrapped up the regular season with a 20-12 blistering of Centre College in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest, Saturday from Puett Field.

CLASS OF 2023!
Prior to the opening draw, four Tigers were recognized as a part of the class of 2023 at the University of the South:
Lizzie Chamberlin,
Cleo Smith,
Jessica Morgan Southworth and
Casey Thomsen.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Tigers came out strong to start the game, netting the first six goals in the first five minutes of the period. At the 11:22 mark,
Emma Burns' 50th goal of the season made it a 5-0 lead and forced the Colonels to burn a timeout.
-Centre finally dented the scoreboard at the 8:08 mark, but the Purple and White finished the quarter on a 5-0 run to put the game at running clock with 2:09 left in the first quarter.
-After
Casey Thomsen scored the 11th Tiger goal to put the game into running clock, her 30th of the year came early in the second quarter off a
Caroline Harlick pass to make it 12-1.
-
Sally Herrington, who put together a hat trick in the first quarter, scored her 50th of the season with an unassisted goal with 5:48 left in the half to lead 14-3 en route to a 15-3 halftime lead.
TIGERS ENTER SAA TOURNAMENT AS THE NO. 3 SEED
-With the league's regular season now in the books, the
2023 SAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament bracket is now set. With Saturday's win, Sewanee, Centre and Oglethorpe all had identical 3-3 records. Sewanee secured the No. 3 by earning the highest goal differentials between the three teams.
-The Purple and White will travel to No. 2 seed Berry College next week for the first round and semifinal games on April 21 and 23, respectively.
-The Tigers will draw the 6-seed Panthers of Birmingham-Southern for the play-in game on Friday night. The winner will take on the host Vikings on Sunday, April 23.
-On the other side of the bracket, Rhodes, who clinched its seventh consecutive regular season championship, will welcome Centre and Oglethorpe to Memphis for the play-in. The winner takes on the top-seed Lynx.
-The 2023 SAA Tournament Championship Game will occur on Sunday, April 30 at the highest remaining seed.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-It was a career day for freshman
Sally Herrington. The Richmond, Va. native set new career-highs in goals and draw controls with six each.
-
Marlin Price posted her seventh double-digit draw control performance, winning 11 of them on Saturday. Currently at 144 on the season, the freshman is tied for the most in a season in conference history, joining Baylee Barker from Rhodes in 2021.

Casey Thomsen and
Emma Burns each had four goals. Burns added two assists for six points.
-
Jessica Morgan Southworth forced two turnovers and
Sarah Powers (4-5) made seven saves.
CENTRE KEY STATISTICS
-Gracie Garner scored three goals, while Lilly Gahm also had a hat trick and totaled six points.
-Centre's leading scorer, Haley Rice, was limited to one goal, but she did have three assists.
-Gracey Falk saved eight shots in full time for the Colonels.
UP NEXT
The 2023 SAA Tournament starts up on Friday, April 21, as Sewanee will make the trip to Rome, Ga. for the play-in game against 6-seed Birmingham-Southern at 4 p.m. ET.
