ATLANTA - The University of the South baseball team brought the brooms to Hermance Stadium, as the Tigers secured the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) series sweep with two wins on Saturday at Oglethorpe University, 9-4 and 2-0.
With the series sweep, Sewanee locks up its first conference series sweep since Millsaps in 2019, and it is the first series sweep of Oglethorpe since 2005, when the teams played four-game series in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-After each team went down in order to start the game, Sewanee got the offense going with back-to-back hits by
Charlie Teel and
Will Yarbro.
-Two batters later,
John Bagwell laced a double down the left field line to give the Tigers the early 1-0 lead. Next,
Jadon Fetrow had a productive RBI groundout to shortstop.
-In the third, Oglethorpe tied the game with two runs in the frame, and in the fourth, the home team took a 3-2 lead on a sacrifice fly.
-In the fifth, trailing 3-2,
Blake Pou launched his sixth home run of the season to flip the lead back to the visitors, 4-3. A two-run shot to right field,
Hunter Herndon scored on the play after his infield hit.
-The back-and-forth battle continued in the bottom of the fifth, as the Stormy Petrels tied the game with a RBI single.
-In the sixth, after OU made a pitching change, the Purple and White got the lead back for good. After a leadoff double by Yarbro, he moved up to third on a failed pick-off attempt by the new pitcher by Grant Guinther.
Owen Andress followed with an RBI groundout to give the Tigers the 5-4 lead.
-Bagwell followed with a hit by pitch, and after moving up to second base on a wild pitch, Fetrow followed with a RBI single to right center.
-The Tigers secured the series victory with three insurance runs in the eighth, as Herndon recorded a base hit to center field, and Pou had a two-run RBI single.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-In the nightcap, the Tigers scored first in the third inning. With two outs in the frame,
Hunter Herndon coaxed out a full count walk.
Blake Pou followed with an RBI double to left field. Next,
Mike Lewishall followed with an RBI double down the left field line to make it 2-0.
-In the sixth,
Jake Nevle came into the game looking for the final six outs. In his first inning of relief, after allowing back-to-back hits, the freshman got out of it on a fielder's choice and two fly outs.
-In the seventh, Nevle retired the side in order to secure the victory and series sweep for the Tigers.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS

Blake Pou had a 3-for-5 afternoon at the dish in game one with a homer and four RBI. Adding a double in game two, the sophomore posted a 4-for-9 Saturday with five RBI.

Hunter Herndon went 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI in game one.
Will Yarbro also had a 3-for-5 day in game one.

John Bagwell had a 2-for-3 performance in game one with a run scored and an run batted in each.

Aidan Lenzen (4-5) picked up the win in game one of Saturday's twin bill, striking out six batters in six innings of work.
-In the night cap,
Cy Spencer (1-0) earned the win in relief, striking out two batters in his two innings.
Jake Nevle slammed the door for his third save of the year.
OGLETHORPE KEY STATISTICS
-Jonathan Cruz and Brennan Boone had two hits each in game one.
-Aiden Hosford had two hits, including a double, in the night cap.

Sewanee's final four regular season games will take place from the friendly confines of Montgomery Field, starting with the team's final regular season series of league play against Rhodes College. Senior Day will commence on Saturday, April 22.
