HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-The bats were hot in the first two innings in both dugouts. The Lynx put together five hits and scored three runs before the seats were warm in the bottom of the first.
-However, Sewanee responded loudly in the bottom of the first. With two outs and
Blake Pou and
Charlie Teel,
Will Yarbro's first home run of the year came at a great time with a three-run shot over the right field fence.
-Following the long ball,
Owen Andress coaxed a full count free pass, and on the next pitch,
John Bagwell sent a ball over the right center field fence for his first long ball of the year to give Sewanee the 5-3 lead after one inning.
-In the second, the Lynx cashed in a leadoff walk as Malcolm Rohlfing would later score on a sacrifice fly. Rhodes tied the game on a Sewanee error.
-The tie did not last long. With runners on second and third, Teel laced a base knock through the left side to score
Hunter Herndon, who led off the frame with a base knock.
-Trailing 6-5 in the third, the Lynx evened the game on a fielder's choice that saw the tying run score on an error to tie the game again at six runs apiece.
-For the sake of the pitching coaches, zeros were put up starting in the bottom of the third. However, the Tigers did reclaim the lead in the bottom of the fifth. After Teel led off the frame with a double and moving up to third on a wild pitch, Yarbro's fourth RBI of the game came off a sac fly.
-Coming from behind again, the Lynx did not give the Tigers the lead for long. In the next half inning, a two-our home run by Rohlfing saw the contest back square at seven runs apiece.
-Sewanee attempted to reclaim the lead in the bottom half of the sixth. Loading the bases after
Jadon Fetrow singled to start the frame and back-to-back hit-by-pitches by
Luke Short and
Hunter Herndon, a double play and a groundout squashed the threat.
-In the seventh, the visitors saw an opportunity erased on a "strike 'em out, throw 'em out" double play. With Dante Messina up, he struck out swinging, and
Owen Andress gunned down Gunnar Vachris for the twin killing.
-In the ninth, after the Lynx left the go-ahead runner at second base in the top half, Yarbro, who already had a homer to start this game, ended the game with his second dinger of the contest with a shot over the left center field fence for the game-winner.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-After a scoreless first inning, the Lynx scored four times in the second and seven times in the third to seal the shut-out victory.
