SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South softball team took down Centre College as a part of a Saturday doubleheader split. After trailing 5-0 going into the bottom of the third, the Tigers scored eight unanswered runs to defeat the Colonels, 8-5, in the opener. Centre responded with a 12-3 final in the second game of the twin bill.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-With the winds blowing out to straight away center field for most of the game, Centre struck first of a two-run home run.
-Centre added two runs in the third to take the 5-0 lead.
-However, Sewanee started the comeback in the bottom of the fourth as
Alice Charboneau scored on an error by the Centre catcher.
-In the fifth, Charboneau came through in a loud way with a home run that saw three runs cross to make it a 5-4 deficit.
-After a three-up, three-down inning on defense, the bats went right back to work. Following a one-out single by
Sam Dean and an
Eve Bournias double, Dean scampered home on a wild pitch to even the game at five runs apiece.

Zoe Crockett scored the go-ahead run on a base knock. Later in the frame, she would score on a wild pitch.
-Leading 7-5,
Michaela Walker added insurance with a sacrifice fly that scored
Hannah Wilson.
-Walker returned to the circle in the seventh looking for the complete game, and she would do just that with a 1-2-3 inning to collect the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-In the first two innings, each team tacked on single runs, and the game was knotted up at two runs apiece.
Zoe Crockett drove in an RBI on a base hit in the first, while
Eve Bournias laced an RBI single of her own in the second.
-Centre essentially took the lead for good with a run in the top of the third and two in the fifth.
-In the bottom half of the frame,
Michaela Walker brought
Hannah Wilson, who led off the inning with a hit, on an RBI bsae knock.
-Unfortunately for Sewanee, the wheels fell off in the sevnth. After two quick outs, an error caused seven unearned runs to cros to put the game in run-rule.

Zoe Crockett all had two hits for the Tigers in the opener. Charboneau launched a home run, while
Eve Bournias and Walker each had a double.
-In game two, Bournias and Walker each had two hits.
-In the circle, Walker (5-15) tossed a complete game, allowing five runs, three earned, and striking out two.
CENTRE KEY STATISTICS
-Izzy Rushing and Tori Candler each had a double for the Colonels in game one.
-Andrea Searcy posted a perfect 4-fo-4 performance at the dish with three doubles and two RBI.
-Lucy Baseheart (6-2) recorded six innings, allowing three earned on nine hits.

Sewanee and Centre will play the rubber match of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon at noon from the Tiger Softball Field.
