BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of the South women's lacrosse team knocked off Birmingham-Southern College 21-17, in a pouring rain, Thursday afternoon from General Krulak Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-After each team scored the first two goals, Sewanee added three goals to lead 5-3 with eight minutes left in the opening quarter.
-The Panthers made it a 5-4 game with 6:30 left in the opening period, but the Tigers saw goals by
Raleigh Cooper and
Brooke Sigmon to make it a 7-4 lead after one quarter.
-Despite BSC starting the scoring in the second quarter, 7-5, the Purple and White used a 7-1 run to extend the lead to 14-6 with five minutes left in the half.
-Leading 18-13 into the final stanza, Birmingham-Southern made it a 19-17 deficit with 4:06 to go. However, two goals by
Emma Burns secured the victory for the Tigers.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Sewanee had two players net five goals on the night.
Sally Herrington scored seven points on five goals and two assists.
Casey Thomsen also added five goals.
-
Emma Burns totaled six points with four goals and two assists, while
Brooke Sigmon tallied three assists and four points.
-Winning 10 draw controls,
Marlin Price forced five turnovers to lead the Sewanee defense.
BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN KEY STATISTICS
-Hannah Leon led the Panthers with a 10-point performance on seven goals and three assists. She also won seven draws.
-Brooklyn Hilliard had four goals on the night and forced four turnovers.
UP NEXT
The spring break trip continues out west for the Tigers, as they head to the Lone Star State. The University of the South will next face future SAA foe in Southwestern University on Sunday afternoon in Georgetown, Texas.
