JACKSON, Miss. - The University of the South softball team earned a split in a Saturday Southern Athletic Association (SAA) doubleheader from the Millsaps College Softball Complex. After falling 4-1 in the opening game, the Tigers held off a seventh inning rally by the Majors to win, 5-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-In the third, after
Sam Dean started the inning by reaching on an error and an
Eve Bournias sacrifice bunt,
Zoe Crockett brought Dean home to give the Tigers the lead.
-In the bottom half of the frame the Majors cashed in a leadoff single to tie the game at a run apiece.
-In the bottom half of the sixth, still tied at one, the Majors put together a three-run inning to take the lead for good.
-Sewanee did have an opportunity to tie the game in the seventh, but a fielder's choice that saw the final out at third base seal the win for the home team.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-In the night cap, Millsaps struck the scoreboard first after cashing in a leadoff walk.
-In the third, with the bases loaded,
Hannah Wilson laced a double to left-center to score
Eve Bournias and
Sam Dean to give the visitors the 2-1 lead.
-In the fourth, a RBI single by
Madilyn Parker made it a 3-1 lead for the Purple and White.
-Sewanee tacked on key insurance runs in the seventh thanks to an RBI single by
Zoe Crockett and a sacrifice fly by Wilson.
-The insurance runs in the top half were crucial for the Tigers, as the Majors scored three runs in the bottom half of the seventh.
-The Majors made it a 5-4 contest with a two-run single by Katie Norris with two outs, but
Hanna Hollis slammed the door as Alli Nolen flew out to Parker in right field to clinch the win for Sewanee.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS

Michaela Walker went 3-for-3 in game one with a double. In the circle, she struck out four batters as she went the distance.
-In game two, Eve Bornias and
Zoe Crockett each went 2-for-4. Bournias scored twice and Crockett drove in a run.

Hanna Hollis (3-4) allowed no unearned runs in her complete game effort in the night cap to earn the victory.
MILLSAPS KEY STATISTICS
-Haylie Hoffpauir had a 3-for-4 day at the plate with a run scored in the opener, while Katie Norris had a three-hit game in the night cap.

The rubber match will take place on Sunday from the Millsaps College Softball Complex. Due to the threat of weather, start time has been pushed up to 11 a.m.
