SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South men's lacrosse picked up an 8-7 victory over Birmingham-Southern College in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest from historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The visitors from Birmingham netted the first goal with 5:21 left in the opening stanza.
-Following a BSC turnover after winning the face off, Sewanee's
Ashton Anton evened the game with a strike with 4:27.
-BSC was able to make it a 2-1 lead thanks to a Sewanee turnover on the ensuing face off.
-The Purple and White scored the equalizing goal from
Luke Valentine thanks to
Zach Crain's pass.
-Late in the period,
Phelps Thomas gave the Tigers the lead for good on a man-up goal. Prior to the goal, BSC was penalitized for unnecessary roughness.
-In the second quarter, Sewanee won all four face offs and limited BSC to one shot in the period to lead 6-2 at the break.
-A defensive third quarter, BSC broke the scoreless quarter with a goal with 3:34 left in the period. However, Sewanee made it a 7-3 lead with an
Ashton Anton goal from
Will Wyckoff.
-Despite a
Jack Westfall goal early in the fourth quarter, BSC made things interesting by cutting the deficit to one goal, 8-7, with 43 seconds to go.
-On the ensuing face off, BSC won the battle and had an extra-man opportunity thanks to an illegal body check by Sewanee. However,
Greg Ix saved the final attempt by Micah Finotti in the final seconds.
