MILLINGTON, Tenn. - The University of the South baseball team split two games on Friday and Saturday as the Tigers wrapped up play at March Madness II.
Sewanee was defeated by Illinois Wesleyan University, 10-6, on Friday. Saturday, the Tigers bounced back with a 13-3 victory over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

HOW IT HAPPENED, ILLINOIS WESLEYAN
-Sewanee started the game with an RBI double by
Charlie Teel after a two-out free pass by
Hunter Herndon.
-Illinois Wesleyan responded in the bottom half of the opening inning with an RBI double.
-In the second,
J.T. Carter gave the Tigers the lead again with a RBI base hit into the gap.
-The Titans flipped the script quickly in the bottom of the third. Trailing 2-1, IWU scored nine times in the frame to make it a 10-2 lead.
-Sewanee chipped into the deficit in the sixth. After
Will Yarbro was plunked with a pitch, Fetrow followed with a double to right field to make it a 10-3 game. Next, Carter laced a base hit into the gap to score Fetrow.
-Going into the ninth, the Tigers made it interesting. With two outs,
Jonah Patton sent a ball back up the middle for a base hit. Next, Herndon sent a ball over the left field wall to make it a 10-6 lead.
-Sewanee would get the tying run on deck before IWU was forced to make a pitching change, but the Titans sealed the win.

Jadon Fetrow had a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate with two doubles and an RBI.
-
Hunter Herndon had a home run as a part of a 2-for-4 day with two RBI and runs each.

Henry Shields allowed three runs in six innings of relief. The freshman settled in an tossed five shutout innings after the Titans scored nine in the bottom of the third.
ILLINOIS WESLEYAN KEY STATISTICS
-Tristan Figus went 2-for-3 off the bench with two RBI, while Jalen Ping added two hits, runs scored and RBI each.
HOW IT HAPPENED, MERCHANT MARINE
-In Sewanee's final game of the week, the Tigers took advantage of two walks and an error to score seven runs in the bottom of the second.
Hunter Herndon, with the bases loaded cleared them with a triple down the right field line.
-USMMA responded in the top of the third with three runs of their own to make it 7-3 in favor of the Purple and White.
-In the bottom half, a lead off walk by
Jadon Fetrow was cashed in to make it an 8-3 lead.
-The Purple and White put up another crooked number in the bottom of the fourth. Fetrow laced a double to right field, and later, a two-run single by
J.T. Carter swelled the lead to eight runs, 11-3.
-Sewanee put the game into a mercy rule situation (10-run lead after seven innings) in the fifth. Leading 12-2,
Charlie Teel recorded a productive out on a sacrifice fly.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Three Tigers had multi-hit games on Saturday:
Jonah Patton,
Hunter Herndon and
Charlie Teel. Herndon drove in three runs and scored three times as well. Teel also had two RBI.

Matt Munn (3-2) stuck out six as he pitched five innings to earn the victory. The bullpen work of
Cy Spencer and
Henry Shields sealed the victory as Sewanee finished 4-1 on the week.
MERCHANT MARINE KEY STATISTICS
-Danny Heck had a 2-for-3 day with a run scored to lead the Mariners.
UP NEXT
The Tigers will return home to resume Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play next Saturday, March 25, against Millsaps College. The series starts up at noon with a doubleheader from Montgomery Field.
