CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The University of the South men's lacrosse team defeated Greensboro College, 19-11, Thursday from the Charlotte Country Day School in a neutral-site contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee got the offense started with a
Davis Gillenwater strike early in the first quarter.
-Trailing 2-1 with a minute to go in the quarter, after a Gillenwater ground ball,
Luke Valentine scored the equalizing goal with 55 seconds left in the period.
-After a
Jack Selner forced turnover and ground ball, the Tigers had their first possession of the second quarter.
Ashton Anton responded with a goal with 14:05 left in the period.
-The Pride made it a 5-4 deficit with four minutes remaining, but the Tigers went on a scoring spree. After a cross-check penalty by GC, Anton took advantage of the extra man opportunity with a goal to extend the lead to 6-4.
-After Sewanee won the ensuing face off on a violation,
Will Wyckoff was open for the goal to make it 7-4. The Tigers then took advantage of a second straight face off violation for the Pride and scored again thanks to
Zach Crain from
Luke Valentine.
Leading 8-4 with less than three minutes remaining, after winning the face off for a third straight time,
Griffin Peterson made it a 9-4 lead for the Purple and White.
-GC made it a 9-5 lead at the break, but the Tigers began to pull away in the third quarter. After each team traded goals in the first three and a half minutes of the period, Sewanee went on a 5-1 run to extend the lead to 15-8.
-The Pride were able to cut into the deficit at the end of the third stanza, 15-10, but a goal by
Devon Root with 5:23 left in the game put the contest out of reach.

Drew Perun picked up seven ground ball and won 10 face offs, while

Jack Selner forced five turnovers, while
Greg Ix picked up the win in goald with nine saves.

-Austin Abourjilie recorded five goals to lead the Pride, while Eddie Rowley saved 23 shots in full time.
