KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The University of the South softball team picked up a Tuesday split with an 8-0 victory over the University of New England (Maine) as a part of Sewanee's first day of THE Spring Games.
The Tigers' second game of the day saw them fall the Wheaton College (Mass.), 5-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED, NEW ENGLAND
-The offense got out to a fast start in the first. After a
Zoe Crockett base hit and stolen base,
Alice Charboneau knocked a double to center field to dent the scoreboard first.
-In the second, the Tigers scored four runs, all coming with two outs. After an infield hit and back-to-back steals by
Sam Dean,
Maggie Barker laced an RBI single up the middle.
-Following back-to-back base knocks by
Hannah Wilson and Crockett, Charboneau cleared the bases with a double for the 5-0 advantage.
-In the third, a leadoff free pass by
Grace Black was cashed in on a base hit by Dean.
-Leading 6-0 in the fourth, Wilson smashed an RBI double to score Barker, who led off the inning with a base on balls. Later, Wilson scored on a throwing error.

Alice Charboneau went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI in the victory.
-Six Tigers recorded stolen bases on the day, led by
Sam Dean's two as she went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Michaela Walker (4-10) tossed the shutout, allowing three hits and striking out three batters.

HOW IT HAPPENED, WHEATON
-After two scoreless frames, the Tigers got on the board in the third. After a leadoff single by
Hanna Hollis,
Grace Black came in to pinch run. After stealing second base,
Zoe Crockett brought her home on an RBI single.
-In the fifth, the Lyons tied the game with an RBI base hit to right field. In the sixth, Wheaton put four runs up in the frame to seal the victory.
