SALEM, Va. - The University of the South men's lacrosse team suffered a 17-6 loss to No. 20 Roanoke College, Saturday afternoon from Donald J. Kerr Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Maroons got out to a 4-0 start in the first five minutes of the opening frame. Following a Sewanee timeout,
Luke Valentine got the scoring start on an unassisted goal with 10 minutes left in the quarter.
-After
Drew Perun took the faceoff on a violation, Sewanee went down the field and scored again on a
Davis Gillenwater strike.
-Despite a
Devon Root goal to make it 5-3 with less than three minutes to go in the opening quarter, the Maroons did not allow the Tigers to score the rest of the half, ending on a 5-0 run in the final 18 minutes of the half.
-Sewanee ended the drought in the fourth quarter on a man-up goal by Gillenwater thanks to a unnecessary roughness penalty.
-Roanoke is ranked 20th in the latest Division III poll, administered by the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA).

ROANOKE KEY STATISTICS
-Ethan Caldwell scored four points to pace the Maroons on offense. Julian Kammerman, Luke Kammerman and Luca Docking each had a hat trick.
-Brooks Klyver won 10 face offs for the Maroons.
-Taylor Lewis saved 12 shots in the win.

Sewanee will return to action with the program's home opener on Saturday, March 4 against Adrian College (Mich.) for a 1 p.m. faceoff.
