SEWANEE, Tenn. - For the first time in program history, the University of the South played a three-overtime game. However, the Tigers were on the short end, as the Bulldogs of Adrian College netted the game winner to earn the 14-13 win, Saturday afternoon from Historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-An offensive first quarter, Adrian struck for the first goal of the game with 13:42 left in the opening quarter.
-After winning the face off,
Jack Westfall evened the score at one goal apiece thanks to a
Davis Gillenwater pass.
-After
Charlie Warren won the face off to keep possession with the Purple and White, he ran down the field for the strike to give the Tigers its first lead of the day.
-AC struck for the next four goals to make the lead 5-2 with six minutes left in the opening quarter.
-The Tigers stormed back to reclaim the lead, 6-5, on a
Charles Moran strike, with 1:21 left in the period.
-From offense to defense, the first goal of the second quarter with a Michael Jonas goal with 5:28 left in the half.
-With two minutes remaining in the half, the Tigers made it a 7-6 lead with a
Phelps Thomas strike.
-In the third period, Sewanee got the offense going after picking up possession due to a late penalty in the second period. On the man-up, Moran made it an 8-6 lead.
-Adrian scored the next four to take the 10-8 lead, but an
Ashton Anton pass to Thomas made it 10-9 at the end of the third quarter.
-Down 11-9 with 5:02 left in regulation, the Tigers won the next two face offs and scored on both possessions. Thomas made it an 11-10 lead, and Moran tied the game up with a Moran strike from Thomas.
-After Adrian was whistled for an unnecessary roughness penalty after the goal scored, Sewanee had a chance to take the lead on an extra-man opportunity. However, after two shots, the Bulldogs forced a turnover and got it back with two minutes to go.
-After a Sewanee penalty, Adrian took advantage of the man-up opportunity with a goal to reclaim the lead, 12-11.
-The Bulldogs won the ensuing face off, and later scored again with 1:21 to go to make it 13-11.
-However, a penalty for the Bulldogs gave the Tigers the ball on the face off, and Anton found Moran to make ti 13-12 with 1:05 to go in regulation.
-After Warren won the face off and a Tiger timeout, Thomas tied the game with a goal from Moran's pass.
-Adrian committed a 30-second penalty with two seconds left in regulation. So, the Tigers started the overtime period with an man-up situation. However, the Tigers were unable to convert.
-Despite another extra-man opportunity by Adrian with 1:52 left, the Bulldogs kept the game tied going into a second extra period.
-In the second overtime, each team had chances to score the golden goal, but after eight extra minutes, the contest was forced into a third overtime.
-After the Bulldogs won the face off, Michael Jonas ended the marathon with a goal with 3:24 remaining.
NOTES AND NUGGETS
-This is the 15th time in program history that Sewanee went to overtime in a men's lacrosse, but it is the first that went three extra periods.
-So far this season, there have been two games where the contest went to three overtimes. On Feb. 18, RIT defeated Muhlenberg, 10-9.
-Across all three NCAA Divisions, there have been three games of the same instance. Notre Dame defeated Maryland, 13-12, in triple overtime on Saturday.
-Last season, there were four instances where a game went more than three overtimes in the NCAA. On May 7, 2022, in the Little East Conference Championship, UMass Boston secured a 7-6 win over Keene State.
-Despite the setback, the Tigers are 12-3 in sudden death situations since the program's inception in 2008.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Recording a career-high in goals with five,
Phelps Thomas led all attackers for Sewanee, totaling six points.
-
Charles Moran scored five points on four goals and an assist.
-Sewanee won 20 of 29 face offs on Saturday.
Drew Perun won 11, while
Charlie Warren secured nine victories. Each picked up seven ground balls.
-
Alec Jazaeri,
Carlton Ward and
Jake Cohen each had two caused turnovers.

Greg Ix (1-2) matched a season-high in saves with 10

-Michael Jonas led all attackers with six goals and eight total points.
-Mason Obeldobel picked up the win with 18 saves in 54 minutes.
