Men's hoops prevail against Worcester St. in day two of Cregger Invite

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Graham Smith tallied a career-high 15 rebounds and Rashaun Williams recorded 20 points as the Tigers won the consolation game of the Cregger Invitational against Worcester State on Saturday afternoon 75-69.

The Tigers opened the game hot from behind the arc, hitting 6-of-8 from four different players, Williams hitting three for three while Smith, Reid Carrier, and Tre Corrigan added one a piece. Corrigan's three came from length with two seconds left to close out the half, 44-31. The Tigers were 54% from the field and 67% from behind the arc in the first.

Sewanee led 28-19 with seven and a half minutes left before going on a 12-to-3 spurt. Carrier made a triple and a layup, Williams connected on three free throws and added another from the floor, and Fletcher Bigham connected on a turnaround jumper to build a 16-point lead with just over three and a half minutes left.

17 of William's 20 points came in the first half as he finished three of five from behind the arc and 9-of-11 from the charity stripe. Williams also collected three rebounds.

The Tigers' shooting went cold from the field at the beginning of the second half as they went 11 and a half minutes with just one basket from the field, their only points coming from the charity stripe collecting just nine points as the Lancers fought back to take the lead. Bigham ended the drought for the Tigers as he connected on their second basket from the floor and drew the foul with 8:47 on the clock. A layup from Russ Marr tied the game at 58 and a steal by Corrigan set up a fastbreak layup from Bigham got the Tigers back in the lead. Sewanee held Worcester State to just 11 points in the last seven and a half minutes as they recorded 17 of their own to secure the win.

Bigham posted 13 points, nine rebounds, two blocks, a steal, and an assist, Russ Marr was also in double-digits as he collected 11 points, five rebounds, two assists, and a steal. In addition to Smith's 15 rebounds, he registered two steals, two assists, and three points. Sewanee had a season-high 50 rebounds in their win as every player recorded at least one rebound.
