Men's hoops fall short against Ohio Wesleyan at Cregger Invitational

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Tre Corrigan posted 16 points, five rebounds, and four assists as the Tigers dropped the first round of the Cregger Invitational in Salem, Virginia to Ohio Wesleyan.

Corrigan was 4-of-7 behind the arch and 6-of-11 from the yard collecting his season-high points so far as he led three in double digits. Fletcher Bigham and Cody Baerlocher both collected 10 points. Bigham also recorded four steals, three rebounds, two blocks, and two assists as Baerlocker tallied four rebounds and a steal. Graham Smith led the Tigers in rebounds as he posted eight for the night and added five assists and a steal.

Corrigan opened the game by sinking a three with an assist from  Smith and sent the Tigers on a 17-to-5 run seven minutes into the first half. Six of Sewanee's players collected points in the run, Rashaun Williams and Russ Marr also recorded triples of their own, Bigham and Baerlocher posted a layup and a free throw, and Blake Bouldin added a layup.

However, the Bishops responded with a 13-to-1 run, tying the game at 18. Both teams battled for the remaining minutes of the half as they exchanged leads. Two threes from Corrigan, a late layup by Baerlocher, and a steal by Marr ended the first half at 30 all.

Ohio Wesleyan's David Rice and Sewanee's Smith exchanged layups to start the second half, but the Bishops then went on a 12-to-6 run to build their lead to eight. The Tigers chipped that led away to two as the teams exchanged baskets and stayed within points of each other.

With just over six minutes left on the clock, the Bishops held the Tigers scoreless for almost four minutes gaining a 10-point lead that Sewanee was unable to recover from. Baerlocher ended the scoring drought for the Tigers as he made his layup and the extra point with 2:40 left to play. Another basket behind the arc from Corrigan got Sewanee within six, but they were unable to find an answer as they fell 68-61.

Sewanee faces Worcester State University tomorrow at Noon ET on the final day of the Cregger Invitational hosted by Roanoke. The Tigers then resume conference play on Jan 5 as they travel to Millsaps then Birmingham-Southern to start the new year.
