Second-half push falls just short as the Tigers drop decision to Berea at home

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Faith Humphrey tallied 14 points and five assists while Olivia Falvey collected 14 as a late run by the Tigers was just short falling to Berea 63-74 in women's basketball action on Monday night in Sewanee.

Cydney Wright also played a stand-out night as she collected 11 points, three assists, four steals, and two blocks. Kayla Antoine ended with 12 points, three assists, and a block coming off the bench for the Tigers, and Shay Conn tallied an additional nine points, an assist, and a steal. Falvey also added two blocks, one block assist, a steal, and an assist for the night.

The Tigers got off to a slow start as they could not find the inside of the rim and went the first five minutes without a basket. Wright broke the drought for Sewanee by forcing a turnover and making a fastbreak layup. All of Sewanee's points in the first quarter came from Wright and Antoine as they combined for nine. In the second, Humphrey took control for Sewanee as she connected for all the Tiger's points. To start, she nailed a three and then followed with two lay-ups.

The Tigers were only six-of-31 from the field as they trailed the Mountaineers at the half, 16-33. Berea converted 10 points off fast breaks and turnovers in the first period.

In the third quarter, the Tigers started connecting as they were 10-of-16 from the field and scored 26 points. Berea also tallied 26 points to maintain their lead, however, the Tigers were able to gain momentum as they shot 67 percent from three, 63 percent from the field, and 80 percent from the charity stripe. Antoine and Shay Conn both tallied seven points in the third and Olivia Falvey connected for four.

In the fourth, the Tigers continued to connect as they continued to whittle the Mountaineers' lead and came within seven as they continued to put pressure on Berea. In the first minutes of the period, Falvey came out strong and maintained the momentum that the Tigers built in the third as she posted a layup followed by a three. Wright drew a foul and sank both free throws. Falvey connected again in the paint and Faith Humphrey immediately forced a turnover in the paint and drew a foul, for three points getting within seven of Berea. Sewanee held Berea to only two field goals and two threes in the fourth but collected nine points from the charity stripe to maintain their lead and come away with the win.
