SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Tigers opened up conference play at home against Centre in women's basketball action as Kayla Antoine registered 12 points, two assists, a steal, and a block as the Tigers fell 45-71.
Centre started the game with a strong offensive run, scoring the first 11 points and shooting 73 percent from the floor. However, the Tigers answered with a six- to two-point run of their own but shot only 21 percent in the first period as they trailed 10-26. In the second quarter, they held even with the Colonels, both collecting 16 points. Olivia Falvey connected for eight points and one block assist as Antoine posted seven with one assist in the first half.
Lilly Phillips opened the third period as she found herself at the charity stripe for the first points of the quarter, sinking two. The Tigers continued to chip away at Centre's lead in the third, getting within 12 in the first minutes of the third quarter, with a layup from
Faith Humphrey, three free-throws from
Cydney Wright, and a jump shot by Antoine from a turnover. In the fourth period, the teams went back and forth, but the Tigers were unable to close the gap Centre created. The Colonels pulled away at the end of the fourth quarter, ending the game with their biggest lead of the game.
Falvey ended the game right behind Antoine as she collected 11 points, two block assists, and an assist, and Wright ended with eight points, four steals, an assist, and a block assist.
The Tigers travel to Greenville, S.C. to face Bob Jones on Monday, Dec. 4 before returning home for a pair of games on Friday, Dec. 15, and Sunday, Dec. 17 against Bob Jones and Whitman College.
