Tigers drop road decision to Brevard

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Russ Marr posted 17 points and Fletcher Bigham collected 14 points and eight rebounds but the Tigers fell in a 65-78 decision to Brevard on day two of the Birmingham-Southern Black Tie Classic on Saturday afternoon.

Graham Smith tallied eight rebounds and six points and Tre Corrigan led the Tigers in assists with five for the day, adding two rebounds and four points. Reid Carrier collected 11 points off the bench for Sewanee with three rebounds and three steals.

The Tigers had a quick start as Russ Marr netted a three just seconds into play. Sewanee built themselves a 17-7 lead in the first, as the Tigers took advantage of six turnovers by Brevard. However, the Tornados chipped away at the Tigers' lead and tied the game at 21 all with 6:05 on the clock in the first period. Brevard went on a 10-point unanswered run as they kept the Tigers scoreless for almost three minutes and held them to only three more points in the half.

Sewanee converted just 9-of-28 field goals compared to 14-of-28 from the Tornadoes in the first half. Brevard shot 43 percent from the three-point range as Marr's three was the only one the Tigers made in the first.

The Tornados were able to sustain their lead for the rest of the game as the Tigers were unable to pull within striking distance in the second half. The Tigers' shooting improved in the second, converting 14-of-29 attempts from the field and netting three-of-nine three-point attempts.

The Tigers collected 19 points off of turnovers and 13 from second-chance points, but the Tornados' bench tallied 39 points and scored 15 from fast breaks. Both teams recorded 38 points in the paint, and Brevard netted one more three than Sewanee.

The Tigers go on the road again as they travel to Atlanta, Ga. to face No. 19 Emory on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 8 p.m. ET before they head home to open conference play against Centre on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m. CT.
