SEWANEE, Tenn. –
Tyler Cozzie had two point-blank shots saved and
Alpha Bah hit the crossbar from just outside the box in Sewanee's scoreless draw against Rhodes in men's soccer action here Friday night at Puett Field.
In an evenly-played match statistically, with both teams taking 13 shots and four corner kicks and 21 combined fouls, neither team was able to find the back of the net, though the Tigers (3-3-5, 0-2-1 SAA) created the best scoring chances in the second half.
Cozzie's header from inside the six-yard box sailed into the hands of Rhodes goalkeeper Nate Slota and
Stokes McConnell's drive from the bad angle down the rightside was kicked away by Slota. Bah's blast from just outside the top of the box drilled the crossbar in the 69
th minute.
Sewanee was unable to connect in the box on two long free kicks and a late corner kick.
Jesus Tadeo's left-footed drive from 25 yards midway through the period nearly curled in near the right post and
Nathan Vanhoeve saved a shot by Evan Buecker just after Bah's attempt.
Vanhoeve finished with four saves and Slota posted four for the Lynx (7-1-2, 2-0-1).
Vanhoeve kept the Lynx off the board with a tremendous diving stop on a shot by Wes Adams in the 20
th minute. The Tigers created one of their best scoring chances in the opening period in the 30
th minute with a left-footed shot by Cozzie from deep down the leftside, but it was saved by Slota.
Will Hawgood's free kick from 45 yards was knocked away by Slota, as it nearly sailed just under the crossbar. Rhodes got another chance in the final minutes of the period but Tadeo's shot was saved by Vanhoeve and the teams went to intermission scoreless.
The Tigers play their final home regular season match Sunday, hosting Hendrix at 1 p.m. Senior Day activities will take place before the match for six seniors.
