SEWANEE, Tenn. –
Jacorin Thomas rushed for one touchdown and threw for another, but Centre racked up 457 yards of total offense in a 54-22 victory over Sewanee in football action Saturday in Danville, Ky.
Sewanee (3-5, 2-4) scored on the opening drive of the game, moving 75 yards on 15 plays, with
Walker Robinson gaining the final two yards for the TD. But the Colonels (4-4, 4-2 SAA) answered with a short TD drive after a 46-yard kickoff return. Centre then took advantage of a Thomas fumble deep in Tigers territory and scored again late in the opening period for a 14-7 lead.
The Sewanee defense spent most of the second quarter on the field but managed to hold the Colonels to a pair of field goals, making it 20-7 Centre at the half.
The Colonels posted a touchdown to start the third period and scored again later in the period on a 40-yard run from Gabe Walker and then a 35-yard pass from Jack Gohmann to Blake Busson.
The Tigers finally got back in the end zone early in the final quarter on a 41-yard pass to
Dyer Barnes. Thomas posted a 25-yard scoring run as well in the final period.
Thomas rushed 19 times for 48 yards after taking five sacks. He also completed 10-of-18 passes for 171 yards.
Sewanee finishes the home schedule next Saturday, taking on Trinity University at Noon at Harris Field.
