Tigers advance all players to the Semifinals of the ITA Cup

ROME, Ga. – Despriet and Petty win a late-night battle to advance as all Sewanee players are into the semifinals of the ITA Cup at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga. 

Jordan Theron moves on to the semifinals as he won his match on Friday afternoon against Emil Grantcharov from the University of Chicago in two sets. Theron took the first set in a tight tiebreak 8-6 and came away with the second 6-2. He faces Julian Wu of Middlebury College on Saturday at noon. 

After a long rain delay, Theron and Wicklund finally went on the court at 10 p.m. to face Aarush Ganji and Sacha Maes from Tufts University. The Tigers came out on top, winning 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the semifinals. Theron and Wicklund will face Marco Siviero and Josh Christensen from Gustavus Adolphus College in the semifinals in Rome, Ga. at 2:30 p.m. 

Petty and Despriet finally went on at 11:40 p.m. to start their quarterfinal match against Amy Delman and Sahana Raman from Middlebury College. They got off to a dominant start, taking the first set 6-1. Middlebury came back to win the second set 3-6 to force a third set, 10-point tiebreaker. In the tiebreak, the Tigers were down 3-7, but after a six-point run, Petty and Despriet came back to win the third-set breaker 10-8, coming off the court at 1 a.m. They face off against the three seeds, Oliwia Mikos and Rena Lin of the University of Chicago on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
