SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South women's basketball team picked up a 66-63 victory over Millsaps College in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest, Sunday afternoon inside Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee got out to a hot start. After the Majors went 1-of-2 from the charity stripe to start the game, Sewanee went on a 14-2 run, capped by a
Camryn Broussard triple with 1:44 left in the opening frame.
-The Tigers extended the lead to a 15-point advantage, 21-6, after free throws at the end of the quarter by
Olivia Falvey.
-At the start of the second quarter, a
Faith Humphrey triple made it a 24-6 lead with 8:48 remaining before Millsaps was forced to burn a timeout.
-The Majors were held without a field goal for almost six minutes before Elyse Warren scored on a fastbreak opportunity.
-Despite the slow start, from the 4:26 mark in the period, the Majors cut the deficit back to 15 points, 34-19, at the break.
-Millsaps picked up the intensity in the third stanza, starting the period on an 11-2 run to make it a six-point deficit, 36-30, before Sewanee burned a timeout.
-The Tigers responded with back-to-back triples by Falvey and
Lilly Phillips to put the lead back in double figures.
-Sewanee maintained composure throughout the second half, despite the Majors making it a one-point game, 58-57, with two minutes remaining. After a Millsaps timeout, Phillips essentially put the game away with her 70th 3-pointer of the year.
-The Majors did have an opportunity to tie the game in the final seconds, but for the Tigers, the clock hit triple zero before the visitors could get a shot off.

Olivia Falvey played 33 minutes off the bench for the Purple and White and totaled 17 points, including 8-of-8 from the charity stripe. The freshman also grabbed seven boards and dished out five assists.

Kayla Antoine led Sewanee with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting. She also picked up 10 rebounds for her third double-double in four games and the 10th of the year.
-After grabbing 10 rebounds in each of her last two games,
Faith Humphrey earned a new career-high with 11 boards on the afternoon. The sophomore earned a double-double adding 10 points and she assisted on four shots.

Lilly Phillips knocked down three triples and finished with 10 points on the day. Now with 70 made 3-pointers, the sophomore is eight shots away from tying the school record for made 3-pointers in a season, set by Suzanne Smith (1998) and
Kinsley Logan (2019).
-For the afternoon, the University of the South shot 82.6% (19-of-23) from the free throw line, and it is the fourth time this season the Purple Tigers have converted 80% or better from the free throw line.
MILLSAPS KEY STATISTICS
-Haley Franklin, Millsaps' leading scorer, led all scorers on Sunday with 34 points on 13-of-26 from the field and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe.
-Elyse Warren added 12 points and rebounds each in 13 minutes off the bench.

The Tigers will hit the road one final time in the 2022-23 regular season next weekend, as they head west to Conway, Arkansas to face Hendrix College. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Feb. 3 from Grove Gymnasium.
