MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The University of the South volleyball team, after dropping a close opening set, rallied to take the next three to knock off Mount Aloysius College, 3-1, Friday evening at Maryville's Labor Day Classic inside the Cooper Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Coming off a match versus Maryville, Mount Aloysius came out strong in the opening set, going toe-to-toe with Sewanee. MAC edged the Tigers in the kills department, 15-12.
-Down 24-22, Sewanee rallied to win the next two points thanks to two errors by the opposition, but the Mounties responded by winning the final two to win the set.
-Moving to the second set, the Purple Tigers won the first six points thanks to kills by
Olivia Jones and
Laurel Burkhardt.
-The Mounties did make it interesting later in the match, getting to a three-point deficit, 14-11, but the Purple and White won the next seven points and 11 of the final 14 to even the match up at one set apiece.
-MAC stormed out to a 5-1 lead at the start of the third set, but Sewanee used an 8-2 run to lead, 13-10. From there, the Purple and White went on a 12-8 run to cruise to a 25-18 win to lead the match, 2-1.
-Tied at 10 in the fourth set, Sewanee rolled to the win thanks to a 15-5 run .

Olivia Jones led the attack for Sewanee thanks to 13 kills, while
Laurel Burkhardt added 10 kills and an ace.

Lydia Goffi had five aces and nine kills for 14.5 points. The senior missed a double-double by one despite finishing with 12 digs.

Anna Ball recorded 15 digs, while freshman
Emma Meyer assisted on 26 kills.

-Ashlee Parrish posted 12 kills and digs each to pace the Mounties.

Day two of the MC Labor Day Classic happens on Saturday with a doubleheader. Sewanee will face the hosts and Washington and Lee.
