SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South volleyball program, down two sets to none, stormed back to win the next three sets to defeat Covenant College, 3-2, Wednesday night inside Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Covenant came out hot in the first two sets, but it was heavily contested by Sewanee. The visitors posted set victories of 25-23 and a 25-21 to get out to a 2-0 match lead.
-For the Purple and White, the light came on in the third set, posting just two errors to the Scots' nine to cruise to a 25-16 victory.
-In the fourth set, Sewanee had many opportunities to force the fifth set, by the visitors would not go away, forcing extra points. Tied at 27, Sewanee used back-to-back kills by
Ellie Pedersen and
Laurel Burkhardt to force the deciding set.
-For the Tigers, the fifth set was cake, as they won the first seven points of the set to roll to a five-set win, 15-7.
-Sewanee, after struggling to stay over a .100 attack percentage in the first couple of sets, rallied to a .150 attack percentage (30-15-99), including a .231 mark (8-2-26) in the third and a .263 in the deciding set (8-3-19).
-The Tigers' defense was strong in the last three sets, holding the Scots to a -.030 attack percentage (22-25-100), including a -.057 percentage in the fourth set (10-13-53).
NOTES AND NUGGETS
-This was the sixth time in program history (1989-91-2000-17-22) that the two teams went to a deciding fifth set, and the Tigers have won all six meetings. Sewanee and Covenant played back-to-back five-set marathons in 2000.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS

Ashley Crosby came to life in the last three sets. Finishing with career highs in digs (19) and kills (17), she totaled 11 kills in sets three, four and five. The junior dropped four kills with one error on six attacks in the deciding fifth set.

Anna Ball set a new career-best with 29 digs and added five aces.
Emma Meyer posted a double-double with 35 assists and 12 digs.

Laurel Burkhardt posted 11 digs and added 10 kills, and
Lydia Goffi also had 10 kills.
Ellie Pedersen posted eight block assists and totaled 10 points.
COVENANT KEY STATISTICS
-Emma Kalbfleisch recorded a team-best 14 kills and totaled 16.5 points.
-Grace Logterman posted 11.5 points on seven kills, two solo blocks and five assisted blocks.
UP NEXT
The Tigers will open Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play this weekend at home for Family Weekend. First up will be No. 12 Berry at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
