LEXINGTON, Ky. - The University of the South volleyball team posted a split of their competition on Saturday at the Transylvania Invitational. After falling to the University of Chicago in straight sets, Sewanee defeated Illinois College in five sets.

ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Emma Meyer was named to the All-Tournament team for the weekend. In four matches, the freshman tallied two double-doubles and totaled 91 assists, averaging over six per set, and 36 digs. On the serve, she secured six aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED, CHICAGO
-Sewanee got to within one point, 6-5, early in the opening set, but the Maroons finished the set on a 19-11 run to win, 25-16.
-UChicago posted 28 kills to Sewanee's nine in the last two sets to cruise to the straight-set victory.
-Chicago is receiving votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Poll.

-Natalie Schildt posted 15 points on 12 kills and three aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED, ILLINOIS COLLEGE
-In Sewanee's final match of the weekend, they and Illinois College went back-and-forth, and the Tigers had to rally from a 2-1 deficit to win the match.
-After Sewanee breezed past IC in the opening set, 25-15, but the Lady Blues won the next two, 25-21 and 25-23, to take the 2-1 match lead.
-The fourth set was a back-and-forth see-saw battle. Trailing 23-20, Illinois College won the next three points to even the score at 23 points apiece. However, a
Lydia Goffi kill and an IC attack error helped force the match to a deciding fifth set.
-In the deciding set, Sewanee stormed out to a 8-3 lead, but Illinois College used two aces and two Sewanee attack errors to make it an 8-7 deficit. However, the Purple and White won seven of the final eight points to take the match.

Ellie Pedersen posted 17 points thanks to 11 kills, two aces and six total blocks.

Laurel Burkhardt recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs, while
Emma Meyer also posted a double-double with 34 asssists and 11 digs.

Adele Cassidy added 28 digs.

-Paige Knuffman led the Lady Blues with nine kills, while Jen Huboldt tallied 30 digs.
