Women's Soccer Draws Against Lynchburg

Salem, Virginia: On Saturday, September 10th, The University of the South Women's Soccer team took on Lynchburg in the first game of the Roanoke Invitational. A hard fought 0-0 draw was the final score after 90 minutes.

GAME INFORMATION:
Sewanee (2-1-1) 0, Lynchburg (1-0-2) 0

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hornets of Lynchburg got off to a hot start, firing off six shots in the first 15 minute of action.
- Sewanne Goalkeeper Abby Jones would record two of her four saves in the first half.
- Jones and the Tiger defense, led by reigning SAA Defensive Player of the Week Lacey Carder as well as Madison Stevens and Kate Thompson held the Hornets scoreless on 10 shots in the first half.
- Caroline Pulliam fired off the only Sewanee shot of the first half with about 12 minutes left, but was turned away by the goalkeeper for Lynchburg.
- The second half saw more Lynchburg shots coming at the Sewanee defense.
- Jones would turn away two more offerings from Lynchburg to keep the Hornets off the board.
- Pulliam would fire off another shot in the second half, but would miss wide.
- Jones' final save came with less than five minutes left to seal the draw.

KEY SEWANEE STATISTICS:
- Abby Jones finished with four saves.
- Caroline Pulliam finished with both Sewanee shots. 

KEY LYNCHBURG STATISTICS:
- Lynchburg out shot Sewanee 19-2.
- Ida Swisher led Lynchburg with nine shots taken.

"A great result against a great team today! We are very proud of the ladies and how much tact they showed the entire game. Abby Jones and the backline played incredible today. We will enjoy this one tonight knowing we have a tough Roanoke side tomorrow," Head Coach Greg Cathell said after the game.

Sewanee wraps up the Roanoke Invitation on Sunday, September 11th with a game against host school Roanoke. Kickoff is slated for 3PM ET/ 2PM CT.
