Luke Valentine to give Sewanee the 2-1 lead after a period of play.
-
Will Wyckoff made it a 3-1 lead with his early second quarter goal, but the Warriors responded with back-to-back goals of their own with 5:46 left in the half.
-Hendrix had multiple opportunities to take the lead in the final three minutes of the half, but a strong defensive presence, along with
Greg Ix's two saves, kept the score even at three goals apiece.
-After Valentine gave the Tigers the lead again, 4-3, the Warriors responded with four straight goals to lead 7-4 late in the period. Sewanee earned a much needed goal to cut the deficit by two at the end of the period thanks to a
Devon Root strike with a
Ryan Hofstetter's pass.
-After winning the face off to start the final stanza, Hofstetter made it a one-goal game, 7-6 with 14 minutes left in regulation. However, the Warriors responded with a goal to push the lead back to two with less than 10 minutes left.
-Nearly a minute later, Hofstetter scored again after a Hendrix turnover on the face off.
-With seven minutes left in the game, also off a Warrior turnover, Hofstetter made it an 8-8 score as he achieved the hat trick.
-Hendrix would not go away for Sewnee, as the Warriors made it a 9-8 game with five minutes left. On the next possession, after
Charlie Warren won the face off on a violation, Hofstetter found the back of the cage again for his fourth goal of the period and evened the score once again, 9-9.
-With less than two minutes remaining in regulation, Sewanee took advantage of Hendrix being man-down due to a pushing penalty. Valentine gave the Purple Tigers the 10-9 edge thanks to a
Drew Mullen dime.
-Unfortunately, after a Sewanee turnover, Hendrix went down the field to even the score with 53 seconds in regulation.
-The Warriors would win the ensuing face off, but they would not get a shot on-target, and the game was forced into overtime.
