SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South baseball team earned a split of a Tuesday doubleheader with Brescia University (Ky.), falling in game one, 5-4, and winning game two, 7-4, from Montgomery Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-The Bearcats got the bats rocking early in the contest thanks to a Jacob Upshaw three-run home run in the top of the first inning before adding two in the second.
-Sewanee did tack on a run in the bottom of the second thanks to a RBI single by
Hudson Hefner.
-In the fifth, Emmett Descherer, off the bench, cleared the bases with a double down the line to make the contest a 5-4 deficit, but the Tigers were unable to get any closer.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-In the night cap, the Purple Tigers got two runs in the bottom of the second. After
Mike Lewishall reached with a one-out single,
TJ Meyn later brought him home with a home run over the left field fence.
-Brescia would respond in the top-half of the third with a run to make it a 2-1 score. However, in the bottom of the fourth, after
Sully McCreery was beaned with a pitch, Lewishall sent one over the left field fence for a home run to give Sewanee the 4-1 lead.
-Once again, the visitors would respond in the next half-inning, as they got the two runs back to get the deficit back to a run, 4-3.
-In the bottom of the fifth, after a one-out free pass by
Wade Sansone, Lewishall would later bring him across the plate on a sac fly.
-In the sixth, Sewanee added two key insurance runs off the bat of
Jack Roode, as he sent a ball down the right field and out of the ballpark for the Tigers' third dinger of the game.
-In the seventh, the Bearcats would cash in a leadoff walk, but
Mitch vom Scheidt would slam the door to secure the win for the Purple and White.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-In game one,
Alden Wright had a 2-for-3 day at the plate, while Emmett Descherer had three RBI on the pinch-hit, bases-clearing double.

Jack Roode (2),
Mike Lewishall (1) and
TJ Meyn (1) all went yard for Sewanee in game two. Lewishall went 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Meyn scored twice and drove in two. Roode added with two hits and RBI each.
-In game one,
Benny Ennis posted four strong innings of relief, allowing two hits and fanning five batters.
-
Luke Bishop (1-0) earned the win in relief for the Tigers, pitching two innings and sriking out two batters.
BRESCIA KEY STATISTICS
-Jacob Upshaw posted three RBI in game one on a home run, while Cameron Dean posted a 2-for-4 day at the plate in game two.
UP NEXT
The regular season concludes this weekend with a three-game series with Millsaps from Twenty Field in Jackson, Miss. The series opener will start on Friday night.
