DANVILLE, Ky. - The University of the South men's lacrosse team stumbled in its final regular season contest of the 2022 season, falling to Centre College, 16-9, Saturday afternoon from the South Turf Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Despite Centre striking on the first goal thanks to winning the opening face off, Sewanee laced together four straight goals to lead, 4-1.
Ryan Hofstetter contributed on three of the four with two goals and an assist.
-Late in the quarter, Hofstetter went off again to achieve the hat trick in the first quarter to give Sewanee the edge, 5-2, with a minute to go. Unfortunately, Centre responded with a goal of its own to make it a 5-3 score at the end of the period.

Davis Gillenwater added a goal for the Purple Tigers to make it a 6-3 lead early in the second stanza. However, the Colonels scored five straight times in the second quarter en route to an 11-2 run for the home team to pull away.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS

Ryan Hofstetter put together six points to lead Sewanee thanks to four goals and two assists.

Jack Westfall added two goals, while
Davis Gillenwater and
Devon Root each tallied a goal an assist.

Greg Ix (2-4) stopped 10 shots in full time.
CENTRE KEY STATISTICS
-Will Hubbs led all attackers with seven points on five goals and two assists, while Ridr Knowlton recorded a hat trick.
-Dylan Croft won won 13-of-17 face offs, while Samme Zickell saved 10 shots in 52 minutes.
UP NEXT
Despite the setback in Danville, the Tigers will now turn their attention to the 2022 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament. Sewanee will open the tournament as the No. 3 seed, and will host a first-round game from historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium next Saturday, April 23.
