HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-The Owls dented the scoreboard first thanks to a Sewanee error. However, the Tigers responded in a loud way in the bottom half of the frame, as
Alice Charboneau launched a two-run shot to give Sewanee the lead, 2-1.
-MUW came back and tied the game in the top of the second with an RBI double.
-Tied at two in the bottom of the third, Charboneau went yard again for a two-out bomb to give Sewanee the lead again, 3-2. MUW, unfortunately for the Sewanee fans, would not go away, as the Owls responded with another RBI double to even the game at three runs each.
-The Tigers would get the bats going again in the fifth. After
Kendell Goodrum led off the frame with a base knock,
Sam Dean and
Maggie Willis moved up around the base paths on groundouts. With Goodrum at third,
Hanna Judycki and Charboneau posted back-to-back doubles to make the lead in favor of the Purple Tigers, 5-3.
-The lead would not stand, as the Owls came screeching back in the seventh with two runs of their own to even the game at five. Sewanee had the winning run in the bottom of the seventh at second base, but she could advance no further. So, the game would go into extras.
-In non-conference games, both coaches must agree pre-game on what inning a runner would be placed at second base in extra innings. The coaches agreed with the eighth inning.
-The Owls had the bases loaded with nobody out in the eighth, and the Tigers held them right there thanks to a force out at the plate, interference and a pop out.
-In the bottom of the eighth, with
Sarah Wright placed on second base and two outs,
Zoe Crockett got a little help from the Owl defense and Wright came across the plate for the winning run.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-The bats came to life for Sewanee in the night cap, as the Tigers led 9-3 after three innings.
-MUW added three runs in the fourth and sixth to even the game at nine runs each going into the seventh inning.
-The Owls capitalized on a leadoff single to give the visitors its first lead of the day, 10-9.
-In the bottom of the seventh, with two outs and the tying run at second base, the Tigers put together a big rally. After
Sam Dean was hit by a pitch,
Maggie Willis's fourth hit of the game scored
Zoe Crockett to even the game at 10 runs each.
-After
Hanna Judycki was beaned with a pitch,
Alice Charboneau posted the game-winning base hit down the right field line to bring Dean home and give Sewanee the second walk-off of the day.
