HOW IT HAPPENED
-With the wind blowing out to right field for most of the game, Covenant's second batter of the game in Zeke Gilbert sent a deep fly ball over the center field fence for a solo shot. The Scots would add two more runs in the frame to lead 3-0.
-Sewanee would crawl back from the early hole thanks to an RBI single by
Wesley House in the bottom of the first inning. In the bottom of the second, four straight Tigers reached base, with
Luke Short posting an RBI base knock to make the score 3-2 in favor of the visitors from Lookout Mountain.
-Following a
Sully McCreery walk and a Covenant pitching change,
Mike Lewishall laced a two-run single through the left side to give the Purple Tigers to 4-3 edge after two innings.
-However, the lead would not last long, as the Scots tied the game on the second pitch of the top of the third thanks to Gilbert's second dinger of the day.
-For Sewanee, they would reclaim the lead in the bottom half of the frame for good thanks to a base knock by
TJ Meyn.
-House sent a moon shot into the center field trees to make it a 7-4 affair, and he added a solo bomb to left in the sixth.
-Trailing 9-7 in the ninth, the Scots made it interesting after Kenny Mills led off the frame with a solo home run. Later, with the tying run on second base,
Holden Shell slammed the door on the game as Andrew Brock flew out to end the game and Sewanee's losing skid.
