Fourth Quarter Rally Falls Short for Women's Lacrosse in 2022 Opener

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of the South women's lacrosse team saw its season opener result in an 18-13 defeat to the University of Wisconsin at River Falls, Saturday night in a neutral site contest from Augsburg University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-For the first time in program history, the game of women's lacrosse was played in four 15-minute quarters instead of two 30-minute halves. After an early goal by the Falcons, Sewnaee used goals by Lizzie Chamberlin and Hattie Fogarty to lead, 2-1 with 11:27 left in the period. 

-UWRF scored three more times before Ellie Tate Schutte made it a 4-3 contest after a quarter of play. 

-The Falcons extended their lead to 9-6 at the break before going on a 6-0 run in a 7:17 span of the third stanza to make it a 16-7 affair. 

-Sewanee was able to cut it to a four-goal contest on two separate occasions, but River Falls were able to sneak away with the win. 

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Hattie Fogarty led the Tigers with four goal on 10 shots. She also won seven draw controls and notched an assist and a forced turnover. 

-Hadley Meadows also won seven draws with two goals, while Emma Burns tallied four points on two goals and assists each. 

-Molly Morris (0-1) saved 11 shots in 38 minutes. 

WISCONSIN RIVER FALLS KEY STATISTICS
-Josie Johnson recorded seven points on four goals and three assists, followed by Emily Herdine with four scores and two dimes for six points. 

-Ashley Olson stopped 15 shots in full time for the Falcons.

Sewanee will wrap up the weekend trip with a contest against Augsburg on Sunday.
