COLUMBUS, Miss. - The University of the South softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday from Don Usher Field at the MUW Invitational. Sewanee fell 6-3 to Covenant College in the opener, and later, they suffered a 9-1 setback to the Mississippi University for Women.

HOW IT HAPPENED, COVENANT
-The two teams went through the first three innings scoreless, but that changed in the fourth inning as the Scots scored an unearned run.
-Covenant tacked on three more runs to take a 4-0 lead after four and a half innings. However, in the bottom of the fifth, Sewanee dented the scoreboard as three of the first four batters reached in the frame.
Alice Charboneau brought
Hanna Judycki home on an RBI groundout. Next,
Eve Bournias and
Sam Dean would touch home plate thanks to the help of a Covenant error.
-Leading 4-3 going into the top of the sixth, the Scots put the contest away for good thanks to a two-run double.

Alice Charboneau posted a hit and RBI for the Tigers in the opener.

Michaela Walker tossed the complete game in the circle, as she struck out a career-best seven batters.
COVENANT KEY STATISTICS
-Vanessa Davis recorded a triple and two RBI, while Lauren Kay posted a 2-for-3 day with two RBI.
-Taylor Murdock allowed one earned run in five innings. Maggie Harris slammed the door for the Scots with two shutout innings to convert the save.
HOW IT HAPPENED, MUW

Michaela Walker got the offense going for Sewanee in the nightcap. Wtih two outs, she posted a base knock to score
Eve Bournias.
-MUW responded with a run in the bottom of the first to even the score at a run a piece, and the momentum would stay with the homestanding Owls. Following a three-up, three-down on defense in the top of the second, the home team posted four runs in the bottom of the second before adding another in the third to lead 6-1.
-The Owls made it a run-rule affair with three in the bottom of the fifth to secure the win.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS

Eve Bournias recorded a base hit and a free pass and scored a run, while
Michaela Walker had an RBI.
MUW KEY STATISTICS
-Rylie Grisham posted a 2-for-3 day with a double and three RBI.
