SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South women's basketball team dropped a 64-56 decision to Covenant College, Wednesday night inside Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Despite an opening shot from Abby Witt, Sewanee score the next seven points to get out to an early lead.
-Trailing 11-9 with 2:20 left in the opening stanza, the Tigers ended the quarter with an 8-0 run to lead 17-11.
-In the second, despite Covenant's effort to get the deficit to two points, 17-15,
Lilly Phillips knocked down three straight 3-pointers to push the lead to nine points, 26-17.
-The Tigers were able to maintain the lead, 34-29, at the break.
-However, the third quarter was a struggle for the Purple and White, as the Scots allowed the Tigers to just five points as the visitors went on a run. Posting an 11-0 run for most of the period, the Tigers only trailed by five, 44-39, after 30 minutes.
-Sewanee did get to a two-point lead, 51-49, with 5:48 left in the ballgame, but put the contest away with a 7-0 run in the last minute to earn the victory.

Kayla Antoine recorded her third double-double in the last five games with a 10-point, 10-rebound night.

Faith Humphrey posted 15 points and added four steals.
Lilly Phillips knocked down five triples and scored 17 points.
COVENANT KEY STATISTICS
-Breezy Savage scored 14 points to lead Covenant, while Cosette Kirsch added 13.
-Ruthie Moore corralled 13 rebounds and scored nine points.
UP NEXT
The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) opener will take place on the road for the University of the South on Saturday afternoon at Centre College. Tip-off is scheduled for noon CT from Alumni Gymnasium in Danville, Ky.
