Volleyball Sees Four Named CSC Academic All-District

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Announced on Tuesday by the College Sports Communicators (CSC), formerly the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the University of the South volleyball team picked up four Academic All-District ® selections, selected by CSC. 

Anna Ball, Laurel Burkhardt, Adele Cassidy and Lydia Goffi were all honored from the University of the South. 

Nominations are accepted by current dues-paying CSC members. To be nominated: 
  • A student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. The cumulative grade-point average may NOT be rounded up to 3.50.
  • Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable).
  • No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and been on a college roster in that sport for two years.
Ball, a senior from Nashville, Tenn., played in 98 sets for the Tigers in 2022, totaling 279 digs and 15 service aces. A three-time member of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Academic Honor Roll and a member of the University's Order of the Gown, Ball has been a member of the Dean's List in each semester she has attended Sewanee. 

Away from the court, she was inducted into Sigma Delta Pi, an honor society for Spanish and Sewanee for St. Jude, where she was vice president during the 2019-20 academic year. 

Majoring in International and Global Studies with a Spanish minor, she recently completed an internship with the Nashville International Center for Empowerment. 

Burkhardt, a junior from Hoover, Ala., was named an All-SAA Second Team selection this past season. Posting 258 kills and 40 blocks for 287 points, she also had 194 digs. 

On campus, she is a member of the Order of the Gown, President of the Sewanee Health Professions Society, Treasurer for Sewanee for St. Jude, Theta Pi sorority and serves as the volleyball representative for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). 

Cassidy, a junior from Tampa, Fla., recorded 413 digs, good for fourth-best in the SAA this season. 

An All-SAA selection her sophomore season, she is a two-time member of both the SAA Academic Honor Roll and Dean's List. She is also a member of the Order of the Gown and Sewanee for St. Jude.

Goffi, a senior from McDonough, Ga., totaled 213 kills and 258 total points thanks to 39 blocks and 24 aces. Additionally, she also had 168 digs in 98 sets played. 

A member of the Order of the Gown, Kappa Delta and Sewanee for St. Jude, Goffi is a three-year member of the SAA Academic Honor Roll and has been a member of the Dean's List in each of her previous six semesters on campus. 

From the Southern Athletic Association, Berry College, Birmingham-Southern College, Millsaps College and the University of the South were listed, totaling 16 student-athletes. 

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late December.
