LAGRANGE, Ga. - Thanks to late free throws by John Crump, the University of the South men's basketball team leaves the Wingate by Wyndham Classic 2-0 after knocking off host LaGrange College in overtime, 93-89, Saturday afternoon from Mariotti Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-With no team gaining a lead of five points in the first half, a jumper by Camerin Lyons gave the Panthers a 41-38 lead at the break.
-The battle continued into the second half, as Sewanee, tied at 54 after the under-12 media timeout, went on a 9-3 run to push the to the largest on either side, 63-57, with ten minutes left in regulation.
-The Panthers would rally from two deficits from six points late in the half, as they reclaim the lead, 71-69, with five minutes left.
-Down 79-78 late in regulation, two free throws were made by Bershard Edwards making it an 81-78 score with Sewanee down to its final possession. Colin Kahl would drain a triple to force the game to overtime.
-Sewanee started the extra period on a 6-2 run, 87-83, but the war continued, as LaGrange rallied to reclaim the lead, 89-87, with less than a minute remaining.
-On the other end, Tre Corrigan tied the game with two free throws. After a missed layup by Edwards on the other end, John Crump drew a foul with 20 seconds left and gave the Tigers the lead with two clutch shots from the charity stripe.
-With the clock winding down, a missed shot by Lyons forced the Panthers to foul, and the senior in Crump knocked down two more free throws to seal the dub.
-Despite LaGrange shooting 51% from the field in the game, Sewanee shot 16-of-27 (59.3%) from the field in the final 20 minutes to force overtime. Additionally, the Tigers were perfect from the charity stripe, knocking down 6-of-6.
NOTES AND NUGGETS
-Playing the Panthers for the 12th time in program history, Sewanee picks up a win for the first time over LaGrange since 2019 in Birmingham and the first since 2008 in Mariotti Gym.
-The Tigers, who have won the last four games that have been forced into overtime, pick up a road win with an extra period for the first time since Jan. 5, 2020 at Birmingham-Southern.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Five Tigers dropped double figures on Saturday, led by John Crump's 18 on 6-of-7 shooting and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. The senior added three dimes and a steal.
-Tre Corrigan made four shots from downtown and finished with 17 points. Russ Marr also added 17 thanks to 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.
-Colin Kahl missed out on a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Luka Avaliani dropped 12 points and grabbed five rebounds.
LAGRANGE KEY STATISTICS
-Bershard Edwards scored 22 points on 10-of-21 from the field with six rebounds and five assists, while Zac Hill scored 16 and grabbed nine boards.
