ROME, Ga. - The University of the South women's basketball team were taken down by preseason favorite in the Collegiate Conference of the South in Piedmont University, 81-51, Saturday afternoon in the first game of the CCS / SAA Classic, hosted by Berry College.
The annual tournament features two teams from the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) and the newly formed Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS).

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee stayed competitive with Piedmont in the first 30 minutes, as the Lions had a 31-26 lead at the halftime break.
-Starting in the third quarter, Piedmont went on a 9-0 run in the first four minutes to lead, 40-26. After the teams traded buckets, the Lions ended the quarter on a 17-5 run to pull away from the Tigers.

Kayla Antoine led all Sewanee scorers with 14 points thanks to a 5-of-6 mark from the charity stripe, and she added seven boards and two assists.

Lilly Phillips tallied 12 points, all coming from beyond the arc, while newcomer
Faith Humphrey added 11 thanks to seven coming from the charity stripe.

Natalie Hammock led all Tiger rebounders with eight.
