MEMPHIS - The University of the South volleyball team wrapped up a big weekend on the road, as the Tigers defeated the Lynx of Rhodes College in straight sets, Saturday afternoon from Mallory Gymnasium in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-A first set that went back-and-forth, Rhodes, trailing 17-16, put together a 7-1 run, including winning five straight points on four kills and an ace, to lead, 22-18.
-Sewanee responded in a big way, winning seven of the final eight points to take the opening set.
Laurel Burkhardt recorded back-to-back kills for Sewanee to clinch the set.
-In the second frame, the Tigers kept the momentum in their favor, winning nine of the first 11 points of the set.
-Rhodes, however, would make it interesting. After the Tigers secured set point, 24-16, the Lynx won seven straight points, including four kills by Gabrielle White, to make it 24-23. The eighth set point was the charm for the Purple and White, as an
Olivia Jones spike gave the Tigers the 2-0 advantage.
-The third set was all Sewanee, as they used 18 kills and a .405 swing percentage (18-3-37) to complete the sweep, 25-21. Rhodes hung tough, as they posted a .268 attack mark (14-3-41).

Ashley Crosby led the Tigers with 13.5 points on 13 kills and a block assist on the afternoon. The junior tallied a .333 swing percentage with two attack errors.

Laurel Burkhardt posted nine kills, while
Ellie Pedersen had nine total blocks with seven kills and four assisted blocks.

Adele Cassidy led the defense with 17 digs.
RHODES KEY STATISTICS
-Shayla Garrison led the Lynx with 14 kills, and Maggie Mathis posted 19 digs.
UP NEXT
Two regular season matches remain next week before postseason play starts in less than two weeks. The SAA schedule concludes with a contest with Centre College on Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. for Senior Night.
