SEWANEE, Tenn. - In the third-ever night game from historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium, Birmingham-Southern College defeated the University of the South by a 47-3 score, Saturday night in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-On Sewanee's first drive of the game, the Tigers went down the field for 59 yards. On the ninth play of the drive, Sewanee scored first on a 33-yard field goal to put the home team on the board first.
-BSC responded by finding the end zone for a two-yard touchdown run by Jon Lewis.
-From there, drives stalled out, as it took 30 minutes on the clock to complete one quarter of play.
-As the second quarter started, BSC had a 34-yard field goal by Zach Ford to make it a one-score game, 10-3. After a Sewanee punt on its next possession, Birmingham-Southern recorded back-to-back touchdown drives to lead 24-3 at the break.
-In the third, the Panthers took advantage of each drive, scoring in three straight possessions to put the game out of reach.
-Birmingham-Southern is receiving votes in the latest polls from D3football.com and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
--Freshman
Michael Showalter had a career day in his young career on the defensive line, posting a season-best 10 tackles.
Quinn Johnson had 11 total stops, including 1.5 for a loss.

Kaleb Seay also had 10 tackles, while
Zion Morris,
John Harbison and
Will Cady each had a tackle behind the line of scrimmage.

Ethan Gillespie caught two catches for 28 yards, while
Henry Arnall totaled 27 receiving yards.
BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN KEY STATISTICS
-Jon Lewis had 17 carries for 159 yards and three scores to lead Birmingham-Southern, as the Panthers racked up 334 yards on the ground.
-Joey Kiernan posted eight tackles, 1.5 for a loss and half of a sack.

Sewanee will hit the road next week for the Orgill Cup, as they head to Memphis to take on Rhodes College for a 2 p.m. kickoff on Oct. 29.
