SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South volleyball team had a battle with No. 25 Birmingham-Southern College, but the Panthers rallied to win the final two sets to secure a 3-2 victory, Saturday afternoon inside Juhan Gymnasium in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Tigers and Panthers went back-and-forth in the opening set, but the Tigers would prevail late. Tied at 23, Sewanee won the final two points thanks to a BSC attack error and a
Lydia Goffi kill.
-BSC stormed out to an 8-3 lead early in the second set, but the Purple and White would rally to even the match at 12. Sewanee won three straight points to even the set, thanks to back-to-back-to-back attack errors by the Panthers.
-Sewanee did hold a slight 21-20 lead in the frame, but BSC won five of the final seven points, including the last two, to even the match up at a set apiece.
-The third set was all Sewanee, as the Tigers committed just three errors on 36 swings with 13 kills, posting a .278 percentage. Meanwhile, the Panthers committed 10 errors in the frame.
-In set number four, Birmingham-Southern, trailing 2-1 in the match, started with a 10-4 lead and was in control for the set. Trailing 24-19, Sewanee did score back-to-back points thanks to kills from
Ashley Crosby, but BSC forced the fifth set with a Leah Nielsen kill.
-A pretty intense fifth set, Sewanee found the momentum trailing 8-7. After the team switched sides, Sewanee strung together four straight points to take an 11-8 lead. However, BSC posted six straight points to secure match point, 14-11.
-After two points from Sewanee to make it 14-13, BSC ended the game with an Alyssa Coats kill.
-BSC did turn it around on the attack. After committing 33 errors in the first three sets and a .028 attack percentage (37-33-142), the Panthers finished the match with a .232 average in the last two frames (23-7-69).
-Birmingham-Southern is ranked 25th in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll for Division III.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS

Lydia Goffi led Sewanee with 17.5 points thanks to a career-best 15 kills. Adding a double-double on the day, Goffi recorded 12 digs.

Laurel Burkhardt recorded 14 kills and three total blocks for 17 points on the day.

Ashley Crosby had 14.5 points on 12 kills and 2.5 blocks, while
Ellie Pedersen had seven block assists.

Adele Cassidy recorded 29 digs, while
Emma Meyer notched another double-double with 35 assists and 14 digs.
BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN KEY STATISTICS
-Alyssa Coats led all attackers with 22 kills and a .286 swing percentage (22-6-56). She also had 12 digs.
