ROME, Ga. - The University of the South's
Jordan Theron of the men's tennis program picked up an opening-round victory in the Division III Singles Championship of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup on Thursday from the Rome Tennis Center.
In the Round of 16, Theron took on Alessio Azzalini of Trinity (Texas). After falling in the opening set, 3-6, the junior transfer rallied to win back-to-back sets, 7-5, 6-2, to advance to the quarterfinals.
With the win in the first round of the tournament, Theron will be named an All-America recipient at the end of the season.
In the Round of Eight, No. 4 Tristan Bradley of Bowdoin (Maine) was a worthy opponent, defeating Theron in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3.
Theron will play in the back draw semifinals on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. ET / 9:30 a.m. CT, as he will rematch with Nolan Shah from Emory. Shah defeated Theron in the final of the ITA Regional Championships in singles on Sunday at N.C. Wesleyan.
