SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South men's basketball team was able to get the deficit down to a one-possession affair late in the ballgame, but Rhodes College came away with the 66-62 victory, Friday night inside Juhan Gymnasium in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Purple and White got out to an 8-4 start in the first three and a half minutes. However, Rhodes pulled away late in the half to a seven-point affair, 30-23, with 90 seconds left in the half. Sewanee added two free throws by
Colin Kahl to make it a five-point deficit, 30-25, at the break.
-The Lynx increased their halftime lead to as high as 11 points, 43-32, with less than 15 minutes left in regulation. However,
Russ Marr helped cut the deficit back to one possession down the stretch. Trailing 57-48, the freshman scored eight straight points to make it a 59-56 game with 1:16 to go.
-Sewanee got it back it to a three-point game with three seconds left thanks to a Rhodes turnover and a jumper by Marr, but Jefferson Walker knocked down 1-of-2 from the charity stripe to seal the deal for Rhodes.

Colin Kahl dropped 16 points and six boards, while
Luka Avaliani totaled seven boards and five points.

-Jalen Essick led all scorers with 17 points and six rebounds, while Koki Wiley dropped 13 points.
