SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South volleyball program began the 2021 season on Wednesday night inside Juhan Gymnasium with a straight-set victory over Huntingdon College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Tigers and the Hawks went back-and-forth in the early going. Tied at 17, the Tigers used back-to-back kills by
Lydia Goffi and
Lexi Dean en route to a 8-4 run to win the opening set, 25-21.
-In the second set, the Purple and White came out swinging early and often, winning 10 of the first 12 points as they sprinted out to a 16-5 lead. Huntingdon attempted a rally to get their set score into double figures, but Sewanee took a 2-0 set lead with a 25-12 victory.
-In the set, Sewanee only posted eight kills, but they committed just one error in the set, while the visitors had 12.
-In the third set, Sewanee took care of the competition with a 25-17, out-killing the Hawks, 12-6. Additionally, the Tigers' defense allowed a second straight negative attack percentage.
-For the match, the Purple and White had a .295 attack percentage (34-11-78), while limiting Huntingdon to a -.077 swing percentage (20-26-78).
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS

Lilly Reilly led the Tigers with nine kills on 18 total attacks and a .444 attack percentage (9-1-18).

Ashley Crosby contributed eight kills and totaled 10 points thanks to two block assists and a solo block.

Ellie Pedersen totaled four blocks and five kills.

Anna Ball posted 12 digs, while
Kaylee Scharfman posted 17 assists.
HUNTINGDON KEY STATISTICS
-Kennedy Chambers and Kamea Nash each totaled five kills to lead the Hawks. Nash also added eight digs.
-Morgan Isley assisted on 14 attacks.
UP NEXT
Sewanee will next head to Rome, Ga. to participate in a Berry quad-match with Maryville (Tenn.) and MUW on Saturday.
