SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South men's basketball team nearly overcame a 16-point deficit early in the second half, but Covenant College survived with a 77-73 result inside Juhan Gymnasium on the final day of the Lon Varnell Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The teams went back-and-forth in the early going. Tied at 27 with 4:32 left in the half, the visitors went on a 12-2 run to end the half to lead, 39-29.
-Covenant pushed the lead to 16, 50-34, early in the second half, as the Tigers got into foul trouble early in the stanza. However, the Purple and White would trim the deficit to three thanks to a
Russ Marr layup with 40 seconds left, but the Scots took care of business to seal the road victory.

Colin Kahl finished the game with 27 points, improving his career-high, on 11-of-20 shooting, and he also contributed five boards.

Tre Corrigan also added 17 thanks to 5-of-6 from downtown, while
Russ Marr dropped 12 points in 38 minutes for Sewanee.
COVENANT KEY STATISTICS
-Brady Palmer shot the ball out of the gym Saturday, as he led all scorers with 28 points on 10-of-16 from the floor.
-Chris Barnette added 15 for the Scots, as they swept the Lon Varnell Classic after their victory over the Panthers of Birmingham-Southern on Friday.
