SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South men's basketball team had a strong overtime period to defeat Brevard College, 81-72, Tuesday night inside Juhan Gymnasium for the program's home opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Both teams were shooting lights out in the first half, as Sewanee posted a 14-of-25 (56%) mark from the floor in the first 20 minutes, while Brevard hit 15-of-30 (50%). However, despite Sewanee's 7-of-11 mark from downtown in the first half, thanks to
Tre Corrigan's 15 points off of five triples.
-Between 12 ties and eight lead changes, the Tigers struggled from the floor in the second half in the early going as the Tornados pushed the lead to seven, 46-39, with 11:25 left in the period.
-The Tornados would maintain a lead until the under-8 media timeout in regulation. Despite the Tigers getting out a four-point lead with 3:32 left in the regulation, the visitors eventually evened the game at 66 with a layup with 17 seconds left.
-Sewanee was unable to convert on its final two possessions, and the game was forced into overtime. The Purple and White came out strong in the extra period with a
Colin Kahl layup, and following a turnover and steal by
Russ Marr, he finished with the fastbreak layup to get up by four points 30 second into the period.
-Despite a jump shot by LB Boyette, the Tigers finished the game on an 11-2 run.

Russ Marr played 41 minutes and led all scorers with a career-best 23 points and added seven boards and two blocks.

Tre Corrigan drained seven 3-pointers with 21 points with five boards, three assists, and two steals.

Luka Avaliani posted 12 points, nine rebounds and nine dimes.
BREVARD KEY STATISTICS
-Quincy Carter posted 17 points, eight dimes and six boards, while Chancy Watson added 16 bench points.
UP NEXT
Sewanee's six-game homestand continues this weekend with the Lon Varnell Classic. The Tigers will face MUW (Miss.) Friday night at 7 p.m.
