Softball Stumbles in Home Opener

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee softball team opened the home portion of the team's 2020 schedule on Saturday from the Tiger Softball Field. Hendrix spoiled the festivities with scores of 11-2 and 13-2 in a doubleheader sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-The Warriors opened the game with two runs in the top half of the first before posting four runs in the third, capped by a three-run homer by Jordan Mallard.

-The visitors posted two more runs in the fourth to make it an 8-0 advantage before Sewanee posted a sacrifice fly by Alice Charboneau.

-After Hendrix added three runs in the top of the fifth, the Tigers, despite scoring a run, were in danger of being no-hit by the Warriors. That all changed with one swing of the bat by Sarah Wright, who launched a leadoff solo shot.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-After a scoreless first inning, Hendrix tacked on three runs in the top half of the second. In the bottom half of the third, Alice Charboneau recorded an RBI single. On the play, Peri Prestwood scored and Sam Dean scored.

-However, the visitors but the contest away with a 10-run fourth inning.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Sarah Wright posted a hit in each game, while Sam Dean scored a run in both games of a doubleheader.

-Alice Charboneau also recorded an RBI in both games.

HENDRIX KEY STATISTICS
-Taylor Osleby was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and three runs scored in game one, while Jordan Mallard drove in four RBI.

-Kendall White (2-1) allowed one hit in five innings to secure the game one win.

-Jayden Hunt was 3-for-4 with a double and a homer with four RBI.

-Kourtney Lee (1-0) allowed two unearned runs for the game two victory.
