Volleyball Goes Five Sets with No. 7 Berry

ROME, Ga. - The Sewanee volleyball team battled to five sets with the seventh-ranked team in the nation in Berry, but the Vikings prevailed on their home court by winning the match Saturday afternoon inside the Cage Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee rallied early in the first set to take a 15-12 lead, and the Tigers had a lead of 17-13 at one point.

-Berry reclaimed the lead, 19-18, after a Lauren Beier service ace. However, on the next point, Beier recorded a service error to even the set a 19 points apiece.

-That sparked a 7-2 run by Sewanee to claim the first set, 25-21.

-Berry responded in the next two sets to claim the match lead, 2-1 with 25-22 and 25-16 wins. . In the second and third sets, the Vikings out-attacked Sewanee 27-21 and recorded a .356 attack percentage (27-6-58) compared to the Tigers' .104 percentage (21-14-67).

-In the fourth set, the Tigers, despite being out-killed, 15-14, in the set, rallied to force a fifth set with a 25-21 set victory.

-In the deciding set, the Vikings pulled away late after Sewanee tied the set at 10 points apiece. The home team scored three of the next four points to lead, 13-11.

-Berry earned match point on a kill by Jen Aten, but the Tigers did not go away quietly. Ellie Pedersen knocked down a kill to put the match to a one-point deficit, 14-13, but on the next point, Molly Bergin sealed the match thanks to a kill.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Five Sewanee players had double digits in digs, led by Sydney White with 15.

-Destiny Stewart had 15 kills on a .205 attack percentage (15-6-44) and 11 digs, while Lilly Reilly added 14 digs and 12 kills.

-Constance Connolly had 29 assists and 13 digs, while Olivia Nichols posted 10 digs.

-Sewanee had 11 service aces in the match, led by Ellie Pedersen and Reilly with three each.

BERRY KEY STATISTICS
-Carson VanCampen led the Vikings with 16 kills and six total blocks, while Sam Heard added 15 kills on a .565 attack percentage (15-2-23).

-For the match, Berry recorded a .219 attack percentage on 64 kills.
